Rooted in principled assessment practices and centred around child development, the EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 is a robust, user-friendly, and supportive assessment tool for Reception Year practitioners to implement towards the end of the Summer Term.
The EYFS assessment tool supports the practitioners to be able to engage in professional and meaningful ‘handover’ discussions with the Year 1 receiving team, enabling them to carefully inform teaching and provision in the new school year.

This transition assessment tool provides a clear end of EYFS picture, to supplement the EYFS profile, acknowledging both the child’s developmental age and end of EYFS national expectations. Designed to follow on from the EExREC Baseline Assessment, the tool gives key insight into each child’s progress from their Reception start point to the end of EYFS.

The detailed Handbook, accompanied by a recorded webinar and insightful exemplification videos will enable practitioners to implement a highly principled assessment process and create an informative end of EYFS assessment picture.

Description

The EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 Tool provides Leaders, Reception Teachers and Year 1 Receiving Teachers with a simple approach to undertaking an effective and informative assessment process at the end of the academic year.

As the final assessment tool in the EExREC Suite, it upholds principled assessment, supports effective practice and facilitates careful reflection of data, whilst promoting professional engagement between EYFS and KS1. Designed to supplement the EYFS profile assessment, the EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 Tool will provide vital information about the child’s end of Reception attainment, against both developmental stages, and the national expectations, whilst offering insight into progress from start points. It will enable Teachers across the two phases to discuss individual and class information so that the Year 1 receiving team can carefully plan next steps in teaching, learning, practice and provision, so that the children are best enabled to make a positive start in KS1 and have their individual needs met.

Similarly to the other EExREC Tools, The EExREC Baseline Assessment and The Beyond Baseline Assessment, the EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 enables schools to gain an accurate picture of the children’s ages and stages, Well-being, Involvement, Characteristics of Effective Learning and vital information about their knowledge and skills within the EYFS Areas of Learning.

The Handbook User Guidance will take you step-by-step through the assessment process, making professional judgements based on first-hand knowledge of each individual child. It will help practitioners to engage in high-level professional, reflective conversations about individual children, the class or cohort, and will build confidence in making important decisions to inform the next phase of their education.

A range of data can be created and analysed by inputting the information gathered onto your own school data platforms. This Tool creates a true and detailed actual ‘end of year’ picture to supplement the EYFS profile information, providing invaluable information for Reception Teachers and Year 1 Teachers alike, and crucial insight for Senior Leaders and School Leaders too. The assessment Tool provides schools with a clear narrative about progress from start points, typical levels of attainment, insight into developmentally appropriate ages and stages, which allows practitioners to make informed decisions about what the children need next as they start their journey into Year 1.
